CNL students in Southern Africa

Eight University of Virginia Nursing students and 1 Medical student had the opportunity to travel this summer to the Mpumalanga region of South Africa where they were introduced to Maria of the Green Valley creche. With her help, this group of students collaborated with a local contractor, Mr. Sox to have a toilet built for their facility. The students were introduced to Maria through Jan Vermeulen, a local consultant and friend of the community. Maria established the creche in 2003 and the students were nothing but impressed with her compassion and motivation to make this creche a positive learning environment for the children of Green Valley. They wish her all the best in her endeavors and will carry the lessons they learned as they go into their individual clinical practices. The students also wish to thank the people of Mpumalanga for their warm welcome and new friendship.
